The power from the stator is AC, not the DC your car's systems need. The rectifier in the alternator converts AC to DC and supplies the power to your car's systems. If the rectifier fails, the power generated by the alternator becomes useless and your electrical systems will start failing. We can replace a failed rectifier, and the electrical supply will return to normal. Damaged Alternator Belt As we saw above, the alternator belt runs across a series of pulleys. These pulleys included the alternator, the AC compressor, and the pump. The belt is made from toughened rubber, and it's designed for hard-wearing. The belt takes a lot of wear as it works, as it moves continuously when your engine is running. The belt must be kept at a constant tension. If the belt becomes too loose or too tight, I'll suffer damage and could snap. A snapped alternator belt will cut off your car's electrical supply.
